Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, have stressed the need for discipline and obedience to law among law enforcement agents.
The advice was given during a courtesy visit by Badeh to the governor in Lagos on Wednesday.
Fashola said, "Our men in uniform need to obey the law. Uniform is the symbol of the authority of the state.
"If you break the law while in uniform, you are telling citizens that they are permitted to do so. People will say, 'well, the state has broken its own law, why can't we?"
The governor told the airforce chief that it was necessary that a new strategy be devised to restore internal peace and security in the country.
"There is internal security threat and we cannot pretend anymore. I hope you can devise strategies to restore internal peace and security," he said.
Badeh, who commended the governor, said the Air Force was thinking of maintaining its fleet in the country.
He added that a helicopter-flying school would soon take off.
Later, the CAS told journalists that he had warned his men to obey the law or face sanctions.
Badeh said the new traffic law in Lagos was not just for civilians but also for military personnel.
"I have told my men that if any Air force personnel is caught committing an offence and disgraces us in the process, he will be seriously dealt with.
Wearing a uniform should make us the most disciplined people," he said.
