The Ogun government said on Tuesday that it had spent N783.1 million on the construction of flyover bridge at Ibara roundabout in Abeokuta.

Mr Kayode Ademolake, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, disclosed this during an oversight visit to the ministry by the House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Infrastructure.

Ademolake, who put the total cost of the project at N1.5 billion, said that the government had released N783.1 million.

He said that the bridge construction in Amolaso in Abeokuta South Local Government Area was 60 per cent completed, adding that the state government had released N60.5 million out of the N89.5 million cost of the project.

“I also want you to know that the cost of the construction of Quarry-Surulere, Ita-Eko road was N59.1 million. The construction of Ibara, Ita-Eko, Sokori, Totoro road which is ongoing will cost N1.3 billion,'' he said.

Ademolake, however, said that most of the projects were executed through direct labour.

Mr Joseph Adegbesan, chairman of the committee, commended the ministry for the good job. ”I don't doubt the capability of Nigerians in the Ministry of Works, we have capable hands, we have fellows that are members of the Nigeria Society of Engineers.

Adegbesan urged the government to release fund on time so that more road could be constructed in the state. (NAN)
